1945 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark RPM-010

Description

RPM-010 on the 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent shows the S mintmark over a previous S to the West (S/S West), with the mintmark style identified as MMS-004 Trumpet Tail — a recognized punch style in the VarietyVista classification system. Die markers are UVC-212 and DMR-013. Stage A shows a mixed die state: the obverse is in early die state while the reverse is in late die state. This combination is numismatically informative — obverse and reverse dies do not always age at equal rates, and differences in hardness, strike pressure, and surface contact can produce divergent wear between paired dies. The Trumpet Tail style (MMS-004) adds a second attributable mintmark feature alongside the S/S West repunching. Attributed by VarietyVista. Lincoln Wheat Cents from the San Francisco Mint in 1945 were produced at high volume through the final year of the war. The S/S West direction and MMS-004 style together provide a precise mintmark diagnostic for this variety.
