1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-009

Description

Two features distinguish this 1945-S Lincoln Wheat cent RPM: the secondary S is shifted to the west of the primary, and the mintmark itself is the Trumpet Tail style — designated MMS-004 — a distinctive S punch characterized by the flared lower terminal of the letter. Attributed by VarietyVista under UVC-211 and DMR-012. Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed). The 1945-S Lincoln Wheat cent was struck in San Francisco in bronze, with a mintage of approximately 952 million pieces — the highest single-year San Francisco cent mintage of the era. The Trumpet Tail mintmark punch is a reference point within the broader MMS (Mintmark Style) classification system, which tracks the specific punch tools used at each mint facility. S/S West repunching on this variety is most visible as a secondary S impression to the left of the primary under low magnification.
