Description
An S/S West repunched mintmark using the MMS-004 Trumpet Tail punch style distinguishes this 1945-S Wheat Cent, documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-1177 / DMR-028. The Trumpet Tail identifies a specific S punch variant with a flared terminal on the lower curve. Three stages: Stage A at EMDS with light die scratches running north-south on the obverse and the reverse also at EMDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The EMDS classification places the earliest known specimens between early and mid die state conditions, a more precise designation than standard EDS. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1945, the final year of World War II, composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. The 25th cataloged RPM for this date reflects the numerous working dies required for wartime cent production.
