1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

An S/S South variety using MMS-006 (Ball Serif) punch identification, this VarietyVista-documented 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent documents a reverse die change mid-production. Die markers begin with UVC-207 / DMR-008: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with medium secondary mintmark to the south at MDS and reverse at LDS; Stage C with weak secondary mintmark to the south at LDS and reverse at LDS. A reverse die change yields UVC-208 / DMR-009: Stage D with secondary mintmark to the west only at VLDS and reverse die changed to EDS. The directional shift at Stage D — from south-only displacement to west-only visibility — documents which elements of the secondary mintmark survive at VLDS. The Ball Serif S punch is distinguished by rounded terminal balls on the S letter's curves. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm at the San Francisco Mint.
