1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

An S/S Northeast variety using MMS-004 (Trumpet Tail), this 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista with the Trumpet Tail designation identifying a specific S punch variant with a flared terminal curve. Die markers UVC-206 / DMR-007 track three stages: Stage A at EDS with light N-S die scratches on the obverse and reverse in EDS; Stage B at MDS with a die clash from the N of CENT visible at Lincoln's throat and reverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS with the die clash worn away and reverse at LDS. The die clash appearance at Stage B and its subsequent wearing-away by Stage C documents the die surface's progressive smoothing under repeated striking pressure. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-S was produced during the final year of World War II.
