1945 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

1945 WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1945 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from about 2:00 appears on the ribbon's bottom, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, right of the D in GOD there is a small gouge, many scratches lie left of the L in LIBERTY, a scratch extends SE off the B, and parallel scratches head west off the lower T. The reverse is itself a doubled die, listed in the Wexler files as 1945 WDDR-003: a spread toward the center appears on the branches and QUARTER DOLLAR. On it, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, a crack links the S in PLURIBUS with the upper left wing, an E/W crack crosses the branches at the knot, and circular scratches run all through the eagle. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
