1945 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007
ErrorDescription
Cataloged by the Wexler Team as the seventh doubled die obverse for the 1945 Washington Quarter, WDDO-007 exhibits a strong counterclockwise spread from a pivot at approximately 9 o'clock, visible on LIBERTY, the date, and the bottom of the ribbon behind Washington's queue. Class V rotational doubling occurs when the hub rotates slightly around a fixed pivot between impressions during die sinking, producing a spread that increases the further a design element sits from the pivot. Elements near the 9 o'clock position show minimal displacement while those opposite display the greatest spread. A reverse die crack running down the eagle's upper right wing provides a secondary die-specific attribution marker. The 1945 Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver at 24.3mm during the final year of World War II, continuing Flanagan's obverse portrait and heraldic eagle reverse in production since 1932. Philadelphia quarters bore no mintmark. Examine LIBERTY and the date for the counterclockwise rotational spread, note the ribbon doubling, and confirm on the reverse by locating the crack through the eagle's upper right wing.
