1945 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1945-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1945-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 2:00 appears on the date, the designer's initials, the lower ribbon and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, left of the I in LIBERTY there is a vertical scratch. A crack crosses the bust's base into the lower ribbon and also reaches into the field over the 1 in the date. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, and under the U in UNITED there is a die chip. Another crack runs east, linking the bottom of the eagle's beak with the back of its head. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V.
