1945 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1945-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1945-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center appears on QUARTER DOLLAR and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, spreading most on the upper half of the reverse. Wexler says the doubling shows best on the lower serifs of the letters. On the obverse, vertical scratches lie left of the upper neck, SW/NE scratches lie left of the lips, other scratches appear all over the obverse, and a crack crosses the bust's base. On the reverse, a scratch joins the upper parts of the I and T in UNITED, and circular scratches run all through the eagle. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
