1945-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
ErrorDescription
WDDR-002 on the 1945-D Washington Quarter is a Wexler Team attribution, Variety ID 1945-D 25¢ WDDR-002. The doubling presents as a close spread toward center on USA and QUARTER DOLLAR, with the strongest expression on the upper half of the reverse. The close, inward-spreading class of doubling requires careful magnified examination — the spread diminishes significantly toward the lower reverse lettering, making the upper USA and QUARTER the most diagnostic confirmation zones. Die markers are documented on both sides, including a die crack across the base of the bust on the obverse — a prominent feature that can serve as a naked-eye secondary indicator on higher-circulated examples where subtle doubling has worn smooth. The 1945-D Washington Quarter is a 90% silver issue struck at Denver during the final year of World War II. Washington Silver Quarters of 1932–1964 are 90% silver, and the 1945-D is a wartime issue. The die crack across the bust base provides the most accessible diagnostic across die states, with the upper-reverse doubling confirmation best pursued on mid-grade to higher examples. Die Markers: Obverse: Vertical die scratches can be found to the left of the upper neck. SW/NE die scratches can be found to the left of the lips. Other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse. Reverse: A die scratch connects the upper I and T in UNITED. Circular die scratches run throughout the eagle.
