1944 Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

Exhibiting a P/P West displacement, this 1944 Philadelphia Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-159 / DMR-013: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with a die crack from rim between BU of PLURIBUS through mintmark to dome at LDS, another die crack from dome south through the middle of the building, C of CENTS, and last S of STATES, and obverse at LDS. The extensive Stage C die crack network traces a path from rim through the oversized P mintmark, across the dome, and through multiple reverse inscriptions, documenting catastrophic structural failure. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1944-P represents mid-war production with the oversized P above Monticello.
