1944-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011

Description

A combo variety pairing a repunched mint mark with doubled die elements, this 1944-D Jefferson Nickel WRPM-011 was struck in the wartime silver alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese, bearing the large D above Monticello that distinguishes wartime issues. Attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #6, the primary variety is a D/D tilted or rotated repunched mint mark. Beyond the RPM, this die carries extremely minor Class II doubling solely on IN on the obverse and extremely minor Class II doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM on the reverse — a true combo variety with both RPM and doubled die attributions. Obverse die markers include a die crack from the rim at 11:30 southeast through the head and a die gouge below the right side of D in GOD. The reverse shows a die scratch southwest from M in MONTICELLO, short northwest-southeast scratches above FIVE, east-west to northwest-southeast scratches right of the semicircle window on the pediment, and a north-northwest to south-southeast die scratch at the left end of the steps. Combo varieties carrying multiple error types on a single die are particularly valued.
