1944-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

RPM-007 on the 1944-D Jefferson Nickel — Wartime Silver Alloy — is a repunched D mintmark variety attributed by VarietyVista. Die markers are UVC-181 and DMR-009. Stage A documents both reverse and obverse in extremely early die state (EMDS), indicating very limited use before producing documented examples. The 1944 Jefferson Nickel was struck in the wartime 35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese alloy, with the large D mintmark above the dome of Monticello. Denver Mint wartime nickels required working dies to be hand-punched with the large D, a process that could produce repunched mintmarks when the punch was not precisely seated on the first strike. EMDS documentation is uncommon in variety attribution records: coins struck at the very beginning of a die's life represent a narrow production window, reducing the number of surviving specimens. The UVC-181 and DMR-009 codes provide the die marker fingerprint for confirming RPM-007 attribution among the 1944-D Wartime Jefferson Nickel series.
