Description
Featuring a D/D/D triple-punched mintmark displaced North then West, this 1944-D Jefferson Nickel documents three separate D punch applications above Monticello's dome. Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-176 / DMR-004: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with the reverse at MDS and a die clash through the knot; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The die clash through the knot reveals an unprotected contact event where design elements transferred between dies near Jefferson's hair ribbon. At 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, triple-punched mintmarks document three distinct contacts between the oversized D punch and the die face, making them inherently more complex than standard two-impression RPMs.
