1943 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

A Class V (Pivoted Hub Doubling) variety on the 1943-P wartime silver alloy Jefferson Nickel, WDDO-014 shows doubling on LIBERTY, the star, and the date. Class V doubling occurs when the hub pivots around a fixed point during one of the hubbing impressions, creating spread that radiates outward from the pivot center — increasing in magnitude with distance from that point. Obverse die markers include a die gouge in the field to the left of Jefferson's forehead and a slanted die crack in the hair at the top of the head extending to the rim. The reverse carries a die dot below the B of PLURIBUS and a possible RPM with the P punched west of its primary position. Struck in the 35% silver wartime alloy, this variety documents hub doubling during a period of accelerated wartime production at Philadelphia.

• Obverse: Die gouge, in field, to left of Jefferson's forehead; slanted die crack in Jefferson's hair at the top of his head that extends to the rim;
• Reverse: Die dot below B of PLURIBUS; possible RPM P/P west.
