Description
The 1943 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1943 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Wartime Silver Alloy, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Die crack SE from top of Jefferson's head about 12:00; die dot under L of LIBERTY; die gouge extends from upper back portion of the 3 of the date. Reverse: Strong vertical die gouge to upper right of right arch.
