Description

The 1943 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-013 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1943 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Wartime Silver Alloy, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Slanted die crack in Jefferson's hair at the top of his head; irregular-shaped die gouge in his hair at the back of his head. Reverse: Die dot to lower right of small right window; vertical die scratch above right side of small right window.
