Documented by VarietyVista, the 1942 RPM-026 Jefferson Nickel is a wartime silver alloy issue with die markers UVC-036 / DMR-031 fully confirmed across all three stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with both at MDS; Stage C with both at LDS. This complete documentation without “unconfirmed” notations indicates specimens from all die states have been positively identified. Struck at Philadelphia in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter. As one of the first-year wartime issues, the 1942-P carries the distinction of being the first Philadelphia coin to bear a P mintmark in American history. The 26th cataloged RPM reflects the large die population from high-volume production where hundreds of dies each received the novel oversized P mintmark.
