1942 Repunched Mintmark RPM-022

Description

With a P/P Northwest displacement, this 1942-P wartime silver Jefferson Nickel documented by VarietyVista bears the first-ever P mintmark used on Philadelphia coinage, introduced to distinguish the emergency 35% silver alloy. Die markers UVC-032 / DMR-027: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with a small die chip on the right roofline above the outside window at MDS and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse at LDS and a die crack from the eye south to the jaw at LDS. The die crack descending from Jefferson's eye to the jaw at LDS traces a distinctive facial failure path. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the inaugural wartime nickel saw massive Philadelphia output, yielding numerous die varieties.
