Description
Exhibiting a P/P/P North, South triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1942-P wartime silver Jefferson Nickel reveals at least three separate punch applications displaced in opposing vertical directions. Die markers UVC-024 / DMR-019: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack from the upper right dome south between pillar #3 and #4 to the steps at LDS and a die crack running Northwest-Southeast through the hair at LDS. The dual die cracks at LDS — one through Monticello's architecture and one through Jefferson's portrait — document advanced failure across both die faces. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, this 1942-P carries the first-ever P mintmark on Philadelphia coinage.
