Documented by VarietyVista, this 1942-P wartime silver Jefferson Nickel bears one of the first-ever P mintmarks applied to a Philadelphia coin, introduced to distinguish the emergency 35% silver alloy from standard copper-nickel issues. Die markers UVC-015 / DMR-010: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a light die crack from the right dome top south down the right side of pillar #3 into the field at MDS, obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse and obverse at LMDS; Stage D with the die crack extending north to rim through S of PLURIBUS and south to rim through E of CENTS at LDS, obverse at LDS. The Stage D crack spanning from PLURIBUS to CENTS through the mintmark area documents severe late-life structural failure. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm.
