1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

1942-D WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The eyelid is doubled, with the extra one northeast of the normal eyelid. Obverse: a series of diagonal scratches through the date's 1 and 9; a series of vertical scratches along the back edge of the upper hair; a hash-marked scratch pattern in the field under IN; two scratches at the rim above WE's W; horizontal scratches between the rim and the tops of TRUST's ST; and a series of vertical scratches inside and before the ear. Reverse: a dot SW of the crossbar of CENT's T, off its upper left edge; a dot below the lower crossbar of CENT's E; and very light vertical scratches inside the lower opening of STATES' first S. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes this listing replaces an earlier 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-007 that turned out to show 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-008 in its later stages and was folded into that listing.
