Description
The 1939 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse (DDR) variety, where die hubbing misalignment produced visible doubling on the reverse design. This variety was discovered on the 1939 Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Monticello, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: None noted. Reverse: Die scratch ENE from upper right portion of R of PLURIBUS to rim over left side of second U; very short die gouge from center of left side of E in EPU; six diagonal die scratches above second O of MONTICELLO; curving die scratch (?) between lower portions of CE of CENTS.
