1938-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

Paired with a reverse listed as DDR-003, this VarietyVista-documented 1938-D Lincoln Wheat Cent creates a dual doubled die combination — both obverse and reverse bear hubbing misalignment doubling. Die markers UVC-1411 / DMR-009 track three stages: Stage A with obverse at EDS and reverse listed as DDR-003 at EDS; Stage B with light die crack on coat above V.D.B. at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with light die crack northwest from eye at LDS, stronger die crack on coat above V.D.B., and reverse at LDS. The coat crack intensifying from light at MDS to stronger at LDS documents progressive structural failure near Brenner's designer initials, while the eye crack emerging at LDS adds a second propagation front. Struck at the Denver Mint in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the DDO/DDR combination gives collectors doubled die interest on both faces.
