Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1937 Washington quarter, listed by both catalogs as Cherrypickers FS-101 (Wexler: FS-25-1937-101 (012)). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a strong counterclockwise spread from a pivot near 2 o'clock on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the date, and on the nose, queue and eyelid. Its obverse markers are a curved scratch below the TR in TRUST, a scratch heading SE from the upper right of the B in LIBERTY, and circular scratches across the obverse; nothing is noted on the reverse. Jim Lafferty submitted it. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V and Breen as #4287. VarietyVista describes very strong spread on the date and IN GOD WE TRUST, lighter on LIBERTY, and gives the reporter as unknown. Under UVC-0060 and DMR-003, stage B has both sides in a middle die state; an early stage A and a late stage C are unconfirmed.
