1937 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1937 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1937 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. Extremely strong Class VI extra thickness, spread toward the center, shows on the outer wings, the lower leaves and branch stems, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The branch ends show Class II separation, and several of the lower letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA have notches. On the obverse, many SW/NE scratches cross the date. On the reverse, cracks run through the OLLAR of DOLLAR to the tip of the left wing, through the AM of AMERICA, through the lower ES of STATES, and down the eagle's right wing; a horizontal scratch sits on the upper Q in QUARTER. Jim Lafferty submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-R-II+VI. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
