Error
Description
A D/D South displacement on an early-date Washington Silver Quarter, this 1937-D RPM-004 was documented by VarietyVista and awaits specimen submission for new high-magnification color digital photographs. Die markers UVC-0478 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The southward displacement indicates the initial D was placed slightly north of the intended position. Designed by John Flanagan, the quarter was struck at the Denver Mint in 1937 in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The 1937-D had a mintage of approximately 7.2 million pieces — a relatively modest figure that limits the total population of RPM varieties for this date.
