1936 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

1936 WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1936 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is clockwise (CW), pivoting from about the 1:00 position, and shows on the ribbon, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. The obverse carries many scratches: NE/SW through the 36 of the date; old E/W scratches between IN GOD WE TRUST and the neck; NW/SE scratches to the right of WE; strong NW/SE scratches through the L of LIBERTY; strong E/W scratches between its B and E; and strong NW/SE scratches through its Y. On the reverse, light E/W scratches cross the S in PLURIBUS and NE/SW scratches cross the P in PLURIBUS. Below the branches the scratches crisscross, and over the Q in QUARTER there is a NE/SW scratch. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 7-O-V.
