Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1936 Washington quarter with very strong spread on all of its lettering and the date. Both catalogs list it as Cherrypickers FS-101; Wexler writes it FS-25-1936-101 (011). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls it a major Class I clockwise spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the date and the eyelid. Its obverse markers are a scratch running east from the base of the B in LIBERTY, a horizontal crack crossing the upper forehead and running into the hair, and a crack along the bottom of the bust that reaches above the 1 in the date; nothing is noted on the reverse. Jim Lafferty submitted it. CONECA lists it as 1-O-I and Breen as #4281. VarietyVista credits Delma K. Romines. Under UVC-0042 and DMR-003 it records stage B with a light crack across the bust in a middle state, a light crack from the forehead to the hair, and the reverse in a middle state. An early stage A and a late stage C are unconfirmed.
