Description

An S/S North repunched mint mark from the San Francisco Mint, RPM-005 on the 1930-S Lincoln wheat cent is the variety Wexler numbers WRPM-007. Wexler cross-references it to CONECA RPM #5; VarietyVista gives no cross-reference. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties, which credits Lloyd Hanson as the submitter, records the repunching as S/S North and follows each side through five stages, A to E. Obverse stage A shows a lengthy scratch heading south out of the L of LIBERTY; stage B shows it fainter. In stage C a crack starts at the rim at 7:30 and travels east. In stage D it bends east-southeast across VDB, turns southeast close to the last fold and ends at the rim at 6:00, and in stage E it is much heavier and badly chipped. On the reverse, stage A has a gouge low on the left side of the second U in UNUM, weaker by stage B; less circulated coins still show it in stages C and D, and very faintly in stage E. Wexler credits John Bordner with the photos, which he took for its RPM Files. VarietyVista, also crediting Lloyd Hanson, lists S/S North under its marker codes UVC-1188 and DMR-008 in four stages. Stage A, an early die state, shows the scratch heading south from the L of LIBERTY and a light gouge low on the left of UNUM's second U, also in an early state. In stage B a light crack runs west from V.D.B. to the rim, with the obverse and reverse both in an early-middle die state. Stage C carries a crack from rim to rim over V.D.B., with both sides in a middle die state. Stage D, a late die state, is unconfirmed by VarietyVista.
