1928 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

1928-D WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1928-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D South, with the secondary D south of the primary. The obverse is also a minor doubled die, which the Wexler Doubled Die Files catalog as 1928-D 1¢ WDDO-001, with an extra eyelid east of the main one. Other obverse markers: a gouge (dot) in the field just east of the bowtie; another dot right of the R's right leg in LIBERTY; and a long scratch running alongside the upper part of the center fold of the vest. Reverse: a strong scratch extending NW from the upper left of the O in OF; a gouge just left of the bottom of the second U in UNUM; and a scratch parallel to the lower left of the T in CENT. Lloyd Hanson submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #1. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
