Description

Discovered in December 2017 by Jody Faust, the 1926 Philadelphia Peace dollar VAM-6A is classified as 8A II1 - B2a, I-2 R-5, indicating an estimated 13 to 30 known specimens. This variety was formerly designated VAM-1F before being reclassified to VAM-6A as the VAM catalog underwent refinement. The primary features are doubled olive leaves and berries on the reverse, along with vertical die scratches and gouges below the letters N-G of IN GOD on the obverse. These obverse marks were caused by feed fingers — the mechanical arms that delivered blank planchets into the coining press — which occasionally scraped across a die's face and left telltale linear marks. The reclassification from VAM-1F to VAM-6A reflects the ongoing community effort to organize Peace dollar die varieties under more systematic numbering.
