Description

Obverse Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Lathe marks around the circumference of the die and close to the rim, except on the right side. Very heavy lathe gouge between the bust and rim from about 5:00 to 6:00 caused by improper chucking on the reducing lathe. Heavy die chip at below the vest and closer to the rim caused by metal being dragged by the lathe cutting tool. Heavy die gouge through the W of WE, NE from the rim. Obverse Stage B: Lathe marks polished away. Lathe gouge much weaker from die polishing. Chip below the bust much weaker. Gouge through the W of WE polished to a single gouge. Obverse Stage C: Lathe gouge very weak. Gouge at the W of WE no longer goes through the W and only touches the upper left side. Reverse Stage A: N/S die gouges near the rim primarily between 11:00 and 2:00. These marks may be the results of lathe chatter. Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers present but weaker. Reverse Stage C: Most stage A markers present but very weak.
