Description

Discovered by David Close, VAM-10 on the 1925 Philadelphia Peace Dollar identifies a doubled reverse affecting the olive branch and surrounding elements, cataloged under die pair II 1 with a B2j reverse and carrying ratings of I-2 R-5. The doubling appears on the middle olive branch, the middle and lower olive leaves along their lower edges, the back edge of the rear leg feathers, the left four rays beneath the tail feathers, and three rays below ONE on the left side. This broad distribution across multiple reverse elements — leaves, feathers, and rays — confirms a hub-doubling event rather than localized mechanical doubling, as the affected areas span a wide arc of the design. The B2j reverse classification places this die within a specific die-state framework in the VAM reference. Antonio de Francisci's Peace Dollar reverse features a perched eagle holding an olive branch, and the organic forms of leaves and feathers provide natural surfaces where slight hub misalignment produces visible spread. The R-5 rarity level suggests fewer than two hundred examples, consistent with the variety originating from a single working die.
