Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-502, this early-date 1915-S Buffalo Nickel displays an S/S/S North, South triple-punched mintmark documented by VarietyVista and awaiting specimen submission for new color digital photographs. Die markers UVC-025 / DMR-003: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The triple S/S/S pattern with opposing north and south displacements documents at least three distinct punch applications with corrections in both directions. Designed by James Earle Fraser, struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm at the San Francisco Mint. The 1915-S is only the third year of Buffalo Nickel production, and the FS-502 listing validates this as an actively sought Cherrypickers' Guide variety from the early period of the 1913-1938 series.
