Description
Holding the primary catalog position for the 1915-S date, this VarietyVista-documented Buffalo Nickel exhibits an S/S/S North, South triple-punched mintmark from the San Francisco Mint. Cross-referenced as FS-501. Die markers UVC-024 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Specimens are needed for new color digital photographs per the cataloger. The triple S/S/S pattern documents three separate punch contacts, producing overlapping secondary impressions in multiple directions. James Earle Fraser's iconic design was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The 1915-S had a relatively modest mintage, making this primary RPM variety significant among early Buffalo Nickel collectors.
