1915-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
Cataloged as WDDO-001 by the Wexler Team, this 1915-D Lincoln wheat cent exhibits a Class V clockwise spread that shows very well on the L of LIBERTY. The clockwise rotational doubling is the hallmark of Class V hub doubling, where the working hub was slightly rotated between impressions on the working die. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-VIII and Coppercoins 1915D-1DO-001, this variety has been documented across multiple attribution services. The specimen originally examined was a low-grade example that did not reveal significant die markers on either the obverse or reverse, though mint mark position has been recorded as a useful aid in attributing similar RPM varieties from the same era. The Denver Mint produced over 22 million Lincoln cents in 1915, and Class V doubled dies from this period are uncommon finds. Collectors should focus on the distinctive clockwise spread on LIBERTY as the primary diagnostic for this variety.
