1913 Buffalo Nickel - Type 2 - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1913 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1913 Type 2 Buffalo nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is close Class IV offset hub doubling, spread to the north, on the braid under the ribbon, the ribbon itself, the nostril and the eyelid. On the obverse, above the ribbon, a diagonal die scratch lies in the Indian's hair. The reverse is the Type II reverse; it has a short diagonal crack over the bison's horn, plus a series of gouges under the UN of UNITED. William Van Note submitted the variety, and Wexler's comments note that the photos were taken by Kevin Flynn. Wexler lists no cross-references.
