1913 Buffalo Nickel - Type 2 - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1913 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1913 Type 2 Buffalo nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very strong Class VI extra thickness appears on FIVE CENTS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the dots. On the obverse, die clash remnants lie under the chin and under the feathers, and a die crack crosses the top of the large feather. The reverse is the Type II reverse, and E PLURIBUS UNUM has die clash remnants running through it; a die crack crosses the tops of the ITED of UNITED and then heads NE from the D to the rim; another runs north from the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM, passes between AMERICA's A and M, and continues out to the rim; and a third leaves the buffalo's tail heading east and meets the rim near 3:00. Bill Fivaz submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 3-R-VI.
