Description
1889-S VAM-4 Far Date, S/S Down Discovered by Guy Messing, June 1975. 4 III2 2 - C3c (Far Date, S/S Down) Obverse III2 2 - Date set further right than normal. Die chip between loops of first 8 on right. Reverse C3c - Mint mark doubled on right side and bottom of lower loop and at bottom of lower serif. Filled loops. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Receives heavy obverse polishing during its life and in doing so inherits some new markings, most notably are pictured below with yellow arrows and the link to the heavily polished example at the bottom of the page shows these new markings for the 1889-S VAM-4. Later will develop a crack from L in LIBERTY northwest to the left side of B.
