1886-P VAM-1E

Description

Discovered by Dr. Michael Fey PhD in July 2003, VAM-1E documents a Curved Spiked 6 on the 1886 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar. Classified as 1E(revised) III21, C3a reverse. The obverse shows raised metal with a diagonal spike extending up to the left with a curved outline on the left inside of the upper loop of 6, with a possible re-punched 6 where the lower loop sits high. Philadelphia struck approximately 19.96 million Morgan Dollars in 1886 under the Bland-Allison Act mandate. The revised designation indicates reclassification as research refined the attribution within the Van Allen-Mallis system.
