Description
1884-O VAM-5 Far Date Discovered by Edwin Miller, January 1970. Revised 2010. 5 (revised) III2 4-C3a (Far Date) (181) Obverse III2 4 - Date set further right than normal. - Die marker'' - Short die gouge in space below left end of cap ribbon and short die gouge at right side of lower point of lower cotton leaf. Reverse C3a - II O oval mint mark is filled on some specimens. - Die marker'' - Filled II O mint mark with vertical die scratch at left side of eagle's right leg. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Check the arrow shafts and feathers for doubling. This is a feature of 1884-O VAM-39, which has a similarly placed date and filled O. 1884-O VAM-5 shared neither die with 1884-O VAM-5A, 1884-O VAM-5D OR 1884-O VAM-5E. Most of these show a "low dash" under the second 8 (BUT NOT ALL!). These have been relisted as 1884-O VAM-18(?) & 1884-O VAM-28
