Description
1882-O VAM-5 Doubled 82, Open 2, O/S Broken Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. 5 III2 5- C3d (Doubled 82, Open 2, O/S Broken) (181) Obverse III2 5- Second 8 doubled on left side of loop. 2 doubled faintly at top outside. Die chip between loops on left side of first 8. Polishing marks inside ear. Open 2. Reverse C3d- O over S variety with the center shaft of the S broken within the O. Small dots of metal all over eagle and wreath. An earlier die state shows as a triangular dot at left side of loop opening and as a fine line in the middle. This obverse die was used on VAM-5 and [[1882-O VAM-46. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # There are three known 1882 O/S varieties: check the attribution guide here. # Late die state of the VAM-5 O/S mint mark. Notice the solid crossbar only extends half way across the mint mark.
