Description
1882-O VAM-5 Doubled 82, Open 2, O/S Broken Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. '''5 III2 5- C3d (Doubled 82, Open 2, O/S Broken) (181)''' '''Obverse III2 5-''' Second 8 doubled on left side of loop. 2 doubled faintly at top outside. Die chip between loops on left side of first 8. Polishing marks inside ear. Open 2. '''Reverse C3d-''' O over S variety with the center shaft of the S broken within the O. Small dots of metal all over eagle and wreath. An earlier die state shows as a triangular dot at left side of loop opening and as a fine line in the middle.
