Description
1879-S VAM-27 Doubled Date Discovered by Martin Field, October 1978. 27 III2 13 ∙ C3b (Doubled Date) (185) Obverse III2 13 – Entire date is doubled. 1 is doubled below upper crossbar. 8 doubled at top inside of lower loop, doubled slightly at lower left outside of upper loop, and has a notch on the left outside of the upper loop. 7 doubled below upper crossbar and at very bottom of stem. 9 doubled slightly at lower left outside of both loops. Reverse C3b – Centered IV S mint mark tilted to left. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: 1879-S VAM-38, 1879-S VAM-122, 1879-S VAM-27, 1879-S VAM-18, 1879-S VAM-18A, 1879-S VAM-18B, 1879-S VAM-85, 1880-S VAM-124 Comments: Diagonal line at Y(bottom), polished 8 more prominent inside bottom loop at top (different than 1879-S VAM 1A) Exact same reverse die used for 1879-S VAM-18, 1879-S VAM-18A, 1879-S VAM-18B, 1879-S VAM-27, 1879-S VAM-38, 1879-S VAM-85, 1879-S VAM-122 & 1880-S VAM-124. Only 1879-S VAM-85 and 1879-S VAM-18B have the die chip on the reverse leaf as well as 1880-S VAM-124. All right & left stars are tripled towards rim.
