Revised (again) 10/2021 - Brent Fogelberg. 18 (revised) III2 9 ∙ C3b (Doubled Date, S Tilted Left, Polishing Lines Liberty Head) (183) Obverse III2 9 – Doubled date with 1 at top left as two notches, 8 at left inside & bottom right outside, 7 below upper crossbar, & 9 at left outside of both loops. Beveled field polishing at neck-jaw junction, lips, ribbon right end & cap fold junction. Extensive die polishing lines on Liberty's head. ''Die marker'' - Heavy die polishing lines at upper hair curl. Reverse C3b – Centered IV S mint mark tilted to left. ''Die marker'' - Die polishing lines at wing-neck gap. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: 1879-S VAM-38, 1879-S VAM-122, 1879-S VAM-27, 1879-S VAM-18, 1879-S VAM-18A, 1879-S VAM-18B, 1879-S VAM-85, 1880-S VAM-124 Comments: # This obverse die was used on 1879-S VAM-17, 1879-S VAM-18 & 1879-S VAM-18A # Exact same reverse die used for 1879-S VAM-18, 1879-S VAM-18A, 1879-S VAM-18B, 1879-S VAM-27, 1879-S VAM-38, 1879-S VAM-85, 1879-S VAM-122 & 1880-S VAM-124. Only 1879-S VAM-85 & 1879-S VAM-18B have the die chip on the reverse leaf as well as 1880-S VAM-124. # Some 1879-S VAM-18s are known with a die chip reverse (right before it was paired with another obverse) which made the 1879-S VAM-85, those specimens are extremely hard to find.
