Description
1879-S VAM-16 Doubled 9 Discovered by Ted Eiben, June 1972. 16 III2 3 ∙ C3a (Doubled 9) (182) Obverse III2 3 – 9 in date doubled on left side. On some specimens 8 has a spike of metal on left side between loops. Open 9 variety. Reverse C3a – Normal die of C3 type with medium IV S mint mark centered and upright. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This obverse die was used on 1879-S VAM-3, 1879-S VAM-14, 1879-S VAM-16 & 1879-S VAM-16A.
