Description

1879-S Rev 78 VAM-34B PAF, Engraved Wing Feather Discovered by Brian Raines, September 2003. This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin & a Top 100* VAM variety. '''34B III2 2e · B2g (PAF, Engraved Wing Feather) ( ? ) ''' '''Obverse III2 2e –''' ''Die markers''– Diagonal line from left side of lower cotton leaf, diagonal polishing line between cotton boll stems and die chip dot on Phrygian cap fold. NOTE: 1879-S Vam-34B obverse is the same as 1879-S VAM-77/77A but a LDS (polished down). '''Reverse B2g –''' Later die state than 1879-S VAM-34 with the additional polishing line in eagle’s right wing. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: [[1879-S VAM-77, [[1879-S VAM-77A, [[1879-S VAM-34B :Reverse: '''Comments:''' # An earlier stage of this exact die is used for [[1879-S VAM-77 and [[1879-S VAM-77A. # Only recently discovered in 2003, with just 6 known circulated specimens, the finest being low AU. A few folks out there are putting together complete VAM sets, but this coin and the 1879-S VAM-83, VAM-56 are making completing an 1879-S Rev 78 set quite a challenge. # [[1879-S VAM-34 is considered quite scare in its own right, with VAMs [[1879-S VAM-34A & [[1879-S VAM-34B each harder to locate. There are several types of broken 'r's on 1878 reverses and it's easy to confuse them. [[1879-S VAM-34 has the broken 'r' in "trust" with the top of the 'r' completely missing. POPULATION:18+ 4 Details in the SSDCR22 specimens registered as of Aug/2020, most in the range of VG to XF with only 1 MS63! in fact XF40 is the pivotal grade for this variety, & if one is found in AU or better is a cause for celebration!
