Description

1848-D WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1848-D Liberty Head half eagle, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as a D/D South. On the obverse, the date's 1 has a scratch heading NW from its crossbar to the star, the first star has a scratch reaching it NW from the rim, and the 3rd and 4th stars have two small gouges beside them at the rim. On the reverse, STATES's E is linked by a crack from its upper serif to OF's O. Between the 6th and 7th rows of the shield's vertical bars, about a third of the way up, is a die chip, and UNITED's U has a crack leaving its top left serif and passing along the bases of FIVE's letters. Frank M. Zapushek submitted the variety and took the photo. CONECA lists it as RPM #1, and its Cherrypickers number is FS-G5-1848D-501. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
