About This Coin
The Success Medals group of the Washington Pieces (1783-1800) series holds the pieces described below. The Success tokens show a bust of Washington in uniform with GEORGE WASHINGTON, and on the reverse an eye in rays among fifteen stars with SUCCESS TO THE UNITED STATES. Baker lists two large varieties from different obverse dies (Nos. 265 and 266) and a smaller one (No. 267), all in brass with engrailed edges; the 2019 Stack's Bowers catalogue dates them to about 1793 and lists plain and reeded edges.
