Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930
Coin Series
About This Series
Hermon MacNeil's design depicts Liberty standing with a shield and olive branch. The Type 1 (1916-1917) shows Liberty with an exposed breast, covered by chain mail in the Type 2 revision (1917-1930). The 1916, with only 52,000 struck, is the key date. A recessed date introduced in 1925 addressed the rapid date wear problem.
