About This Coin
The Florida Proclamation pieces are silver pieces dated 1760, made for the proclamation of Charles III in Spanish Florida. When Charles III came to the Spanish throne, towns across the empire issued proclamation pieces, and the Florida piece of 1760 names Juan Estevan de Pena. Such pieces were usually cast, which was cheaper than cutting dies, and Stack's Bowers records about five Florida pieces, one of them struck. It is catalogued as Betts-454 and Herrera 56.
